Guidance on dry bags

The organisers will transport participants’ camp clothing and equipment between overnight camps each day, which must be contained within strictly one heavy duty dry bag.

The heavy duty 79L Ortlieb PS490 dry bag (see our shop) is now the compulsory make and model.

There is a weight limit on the dry bag of 20kg

We insist on a standardised dry bag for all participants for the following important reasons:

  1. Fairness - Every participant has the same maximum weight and sized bag.

  2. Safety - The event team need to lift and manoeuvre several hundred dry bags twice per day.

  3. Transport – Dry bags must be very similar sizes for optimum stacking and packing whilst they are transported and there is a carefully calculated maximum load limit for each vehicle.

  4. Weather - Once at the overnight camp the dry bags are stored outside.

Please note that the maximum size and weight of participants’ dry bags will be strictly enforced. We will be checking all dry bags at registration.

Participants' dry bags will be stored outside and are likely to get wet. They will be available for collection within a designated pen at the end of each day. Participants must never move or collect other participants’ dry bags as this is an important visual safety check that everyone is accounted for at the end of each day.

An 80L dry bag is adequate for all your equipment, clothing and food requirements for eight days; remember that you do not need a tent or cooking equipment. Participants who do not have a suitable dry bag at registration will be unable to register.
