Oli Reed, Communications & Content Manager at ViewRanger, said:

“We’re delighted to partner with the Cape Wrath Ultra as the official navigation app for such a prestigious event. For a race that crosses one of the world’s most stunning and unforgiving landscapes, we know participants need accurate, robust, reliable navigational information they can rely on – and that’s exactly what ViewRanger provides. Our app works without phone signal anywhere in the world, so even in Scotland’s most remote areas ViewRanger delivers detailed digital outdoor maps and pinpoint GPS navigation."

The journey to Cape Wrath lends itself to participants following the race route using a GPS-capable device. Therefore, in addition to the bespoke event map, we recommend that each participant complements their map & compass work by accessing the entire route in advance digitally. With the ViewRanger platform now at our disposal, this allows us to showcase the routes on our website and have the latest version of the route always accessible for participants.

Shane Ohly, Cape Wrath Ultra Race Director, said:

"We're keen to embrace new technologies to utilise both in the planning and delivering phases of the event. Our course planners are already embracing the route planning opportunities in the ViewRanger interface both online and via the apps, and we think that our participants will enjoy the functionality also. It is important to note that we will still be fully supportive of participants using their current tried and tested GPS-capable devices of choice by making the individual days' GPX files fully accessible."

With Harvey Maps already being partners of the Cape Wrath Ultra, it is fitting that as of earlier this year their mapping became available to use in the ViewRanger app, thereby offering a seamless transition between paper and digital mapping for participants in 2018*.

ViewRanger for Apple Watch was lately featured as the only 3rd party app in Apple's 2017 Holiday Gift Guide and the version for Android Wear had previously been awarded the prestigious Editors’ Choice badge by Google Play.
