'Event postponed to August' - Covid-19 update

Acting now to keep the dream alive

It is with a heavy heart that we announce that the 2021 Cape Wrath Ultra® – due to take place on 23rd-30th May – has been postponed to 1st-8th August 2021.

After carefully digesting the Scottish government’s Covid-19 strategic framework update released on Tuesday 23rd February (and considering the UK government’s roadmap out of lockdown on Monday), we are left in no doubt that we can no longer proceed with ‘holding our nerve’ to hope to organise the event as expected in May. The Scottish government, unlike the UK government, have not released any specific dates for which an event like ours could be held and therefore appear to remain more cautious in how they ease restrictions. This puts us in yet again a very tricky position, as it is simply all too possible that restrictions will not ease in time in Scotland and thus cause a late cancellation/postponement; this would have significantly worse implications for both us and our participants than if we act now.

Taking the initiative to act now has allowed us the opportunity to reschedule the event to the summer. Waiting any longer (e.g. even just until the next update from the Scottish government in a few weeks) would render it too late to postpone this incredibly complex event with all its ‘moving parts’; our suppliers, venues, and stakeholders would, with increasing certainty, be unable to accommodate our request to hold the event in August if we delayed this decision further.

We are aware that we are asking a lot from our participants and event team in terms of rearranging their lives and also from ourselves in terms of event preparation, however we are confident that this is the best course of action and we hope that you are able to support us and join us in Scotland on the new dates.

It may be of little consolation, but by effectively being forced to shift the event dates, the reality of holding the event in August 2021 will also allow for a much more ‘normal’ event experience, so that you can really relax and fully enjoy the atmosphere and the camaraderie that makes the Cape Wrath Ultra® so special.

We know that we are asking many of you to look at changing the dates of your participation for a second time. We share your frustration in this and truly value your patience and your support over the last year – thank you from all of us at Ourea Events.

We recognise that the dates for the August event may not work for everyone; if this applies to you, we’d be delighted to offer you the option to move your entry to the May 2022 event instead.

All participants with an active entry have been contacted about the next steps via email - Please don’t hesitate to get in touch if you have any questions. We are expecting a large amount of participant queries over the coming days and weeks so our apologies in advance for any delay in our response. We will get back to you as soon as possible.

We really look forward to delivering an awesome Cape Wrath Ultra® in August and we hope to see as many of you there as possible for a stunning journey through the spectacular Scottish Highlands.

Are you a new participant now tempted to join us this August?
