Guidance for supporters

Supporting at the event

The start - Fort William

Race registration, the race briefing, and the welcome meal will all take place at the Fort William Football Club (PH33 6TE) – see key timings for more info. Attendance is only for participants, but family and friends are welcome to accompany participants to the venue and wait outside.

The following day - the morning of the start - family and friends are welcome to come along to the Pier in Fort William to wave participants off as they take the ferry across to the start at Treslaig. We ask that supporters do not come to the start line in Treslaig.

During the event

It is important for supporters to be aware of the event rules which state that participants should not receive outside support, such as friends/family providing assistance or food, and contravening these rules will result in severe penalties. Supporters can however intercept participants along the route to cheer them on.

We would suggest the following places for great cheering on points!

Day 1 – Fort William Pier, Glenfinnan Visitor Centre

Day 2 – Checkpoint one at Strathan – there is a public car park 10 minute walk away, but it is a very long dead-end drive to get there and only limited parking

Day 3 – Kintail Lodge Hotel (Shiel Bridge)

Day 4 – Beinn Eighe Car Park (Torridon) – limited parking

Day 5 – Through Kinlochewe first thing, the Coirrehallie Car Park

Day 6 – Oykel Bridge Hotel

Day 7 – Please do not use the Rhiconich Hotel car park unless you are staying in the hotel!

Day 8 – Blairmore Car Park – limited parking

We ask that supporters do not enter the overnight camps on any day of the event. The only exception to this would be for the award presentation on the evening of day 8.

The finish – Keodale

Friends and family are welcome at the award presentation on day 8 in Keodale but must organise their own camping/accommodation for that night. Limited parking will be available close to the day 8 overnight camp.

Supporting virtually

Via the GPS Tracker

Watching from home is best done via the GPS Tracker. All participants will carry a GPS Tracker device which is mainly for safety and communication with race control, however friends and family will also be able to ‘dot watch’ and follow each participant in real time as they journey along the route on their way north. We will share the link to the GPS Tracker page closer to the event.

Via sending participants Ultra Mail™

Another way to support individual participants is to send them Ultra Mail™ - which will be possible via the GPS Tracker page. The route of the Cape Wrath Ultra® is remote, and participants should not expect regular phone signal. These Ultra Mail™ messages can be collected by participants each evening at the info point in the communal marquee at the overnight camps.
